I found out recently, and quite by accident, that my body is too efficient at processing iron and therefore I've have to make some dietary changes as well as undertake theraputic venesection -Nice.
Now the outdoors connection might not be immediately obvious but it will become clear just what an impact it has. There are two types of iron which are effectively primary and secondary so the obvious iron candidates are things like...
...Steak and venison...and therefore jerky...
...And a lot of boil-in-the-bag meals...
...Iron enhanced white flour (and therefore bannocks) and breakfast cereals too...
...Use of ironware therefore Dutch ovens...
...Vitamin C is accelerates iron absorption therefore some wild Spring greens...
...And vitamin C rich needle tea...and Rosehip...
...Alcohol accelerates absorption too, like vitamen C rich blackberry vodka.
It's therefore rather obvious that I'll have to make some notable changes to my bushcraft activities, at least when it comes to food and drink. Still, tea and coffee are iron inhibitors so it's not all doom and gloom!
